Reformed Baptist Church of Staunton

1976 Spring Hill Road
Staunton VA 24401

Thomas W. Schullery, Pastor

Statement of Purpose

To preach Christ crucified, risen and ascended to the right hand of God. The only way of salvation for men born in sin and bound of will to rebel against their Creator, who must in sovereignty work to bring lost sinners to repentance and faith. And thus to encourage the elect to persevere in true doctrine and holiness of life until Christ returns a second time to judge the living and the dead.

Doctrinal Position

We hold to the teachings of the infallible Word of God which are set forth in a concise manner in the Baptist Confession of Faith of 1689. These truths were the foundation of the Reformation and while commonly known as Calvinism are in fact the teachings of Christ and His apostles. It is the goal of the people who make up a reformed church to constantly be conforming themselves to be like Christ in both word and deed.

Located 200 yards north of Rt. 262 (old Rt. 275) on Rt. 613 (Springhill Road) just north of the Staunton city limits. Approximately 2 miles west of Interstate 81, exit 225.

Missionary Endeavors

The church began with a Bible study in 1961 and was constituted as Northside Baptist Church in 1962. After a number of rented locations the present site was purchased, the building constructed and occupied in 1965. The first pastor, Russ James, was followed by Randy Pizzino in 1970 at which time the name was changed to Springhill Road Baptist Church.

Doctrinally the church began in Arminian easy-believism. While making a transition to Calvinism there remained a practical easy-believism in many members lives. This has brought the church through a number of periods of turmoil as purifying and practical godliness have become the life of the church. Pastor Schullery came to minister in 1978 and the name was changed to Reformed Baptist Church of Staunton in 1992 to reflect the continuing reformation of the church in practice as well as doctrine.
